Hi Reader,

Ever wonder if a business plan is really worth the effort?

Be honest — the phrase alone sounds like homework.

But here’s the truth: every founder or side hustler benefits from having at least some kind of plan. Not a 75-page binder — just a simple roadmap that turns ideas into action and helps you make smarter decisions along the way.

That’s the heart of it — clarity, confidence, and direction.

A business plan gives your idea bones. It answers the simple but critical questions:

  • What makes your business special?
  • Who are your customers?
  • How will you reach them (without burning through your budget in week one)?

Even laying that out on a single page helps you spot gaps early and move forward with more conviction.

💸 Avoiding expensive “I’ll wing it” moments

We’ve all rushed into something thinking, “I’ll figure it out later.” Later usually costs more.

A short, focused plan helps you anticipate cash flow, measure realistic goals, and dodge the “should’ve seen that coming” mistakes. You’ll also filter the noise — what actually matters daily versus what’s just busywork.

And remember — a plan isn’t just for launch week. It keeps you grounded long-term. When sales grow, new teammates join, or strategy shifts, that roadmap is your north star.

Write it once. Revisit it often. And that's what the leading business founders and owners of 2025 will be doing now in advance of 2026!

And the good news? You can map all this out in under 30 minutes.

🏛️ Companies House changes: identity checks start 18 November

While you’re planning ahead, there’s one compliance update you can’t ignore this month...

If you’re a company director or planning to register a new business, circle 18 November 2025.

That’s when Companies House rolls out new ID verification rules for all directors and people with significant control (PSCs).

Here’s the quick version:

  • Who needs to verify? Every new director or PSC before registration. Existing ones during the next confirmation statement (12-month transition).
  • How? Use GOV.UK One Login with ID such as a passport or driver licence, or complete verification through an authorised agent (accountant, solicitor, etc.).
  • What if you don’t? You can’t legally act as a director, and the company risks penalties.

👉 Translation: The UK’s cleaning up company data. The sooner you verify, the smoother your next confirmation statement will be.

🎯 Getting ready for the new year

Thinking about finally launching that business you’ve been sketching on napkins all year?
